Drywall Finishing FAQs
Level 4 is the standard finish for most residential applications, where all joints are taped, mudded, and sanded smooth. Level 5 adds a skim coat of joint compound over the entire surface, creating an ultra-smooth finish that's ideal for areas with critical lighting (like entryways with large windows) or glossy paint finishes. Level 5 prevents the slight texture difference between joint compound and bare drywall from showing through.
Timing depends on the size of the project and finish level. A typical room takes 3-5 days because each coat of joint compound needs to dry before sanding and applying the next coat. A whole-house project typically takes 1-2 weeks. We'll give you a specific timeline during your free estimate.
